Kerry-Jayne Wilson, an undergraduate student in zoology at the University of Sydney, is the first to document this species. She gave it a name as well: Uropsilus ichillus. This new species can be found all over Australia and lives on average up to four years.

Kerry-Jayne had this to say about her discovery: “I was doing an elective unit in biological conservation - so we went out and searched for species that were only known to exist within a small region or were threatened. I was looking under logs and rocks… when I found one mole!”
